Hello, friends.
This past week felt pretty crazy. G had a summer drama camp, the play of which was on Friday, and there were other things going on, too, which made for a particularly stressful first half of the week. Between G’s basketball, guitar lessons, the drama camp, and things going on with the adults, the week was dizzying. And then it happened. August arrived.
Like a switch was flipped, the storm clouds came in on August 1st. The knowledge that by the end of the month not only would I be a year older but I’d be back to work for another school year.
This week’s update will likely be short since there’s not much to say and not a lot of energy to say it. But let’s get to it.
Welcome to the 81st installment of Gauthic Times, the newsletter about my writing, my life, and being tired and depressed.
Becoming a paid-Patron on my Patreon would help me write even more. On Patreon, I write about things in more detail than I do in the newsletter or on my website and include the actual names of my works-in-progress and not just codenames. The lowest tier for Patreon is $1 but at $5/month, we’re looking at some serious help.
If every subscriber or reader of this newsletter, or every social media follower I have became a Patron at even just the $1 tier, I could write more and pay my bills better. The same would happen if they bought copies of my books.
You can also buy me a coffee through Ko-Fi.
Grab Echoes on the Pond if you haven’t already. If you have bought it already, books make great gifts! And if you’ve read Echoes on the Pond, please consider reviewing on Amazon or Goodreads, and wherever else books are sold and reviewed.
You can also get my collection Catalysts or my novellas Alice on the Shelf and Shadowed.
Anyway, let’s do this!

This week brought me closer to the end of The Monster in the Closet. I’ve got about 74 pages left to edit with the pen, and then I’ll be making the changes on the computer. There’s a lot of tightening happening.
The book is definitely a classic horror story, hopefully told in a really good way. As a reader, I’m fine with stories that aren’t necessarily “new” on the surface as long as the tale is told well. I hope that’s what I’m doing.

Normally I have a little piece here about some topic on my mind. Not today. I could write about how I don’t think T—p supporters should be in education at all, or I could write about how I feel like the return to public school did more harm than good to G last year and am only mildly hopeful for this year, or I could write about some nerd or geek thing.
I could. But I’m too damn tired. The heat this week, the accumulated stress, the sadness that vacation is almost done and I have so much to do for writing, home, and work is draining me. This week, maybe paid-Patrons will get an exclusive never-before-published short story. I’d like that. Maybe the paid-Patrons would, too.

That said, I’m done for today. Thank you for reading!
If you’d like to see what I could do if I wrote full-time, share this newsletter with others and consider a paid subscription.
You can also tip/donate on Ko-Fi.
Of course, you could also become a Patron on my Patreon, which has a lot more information about my works-in-progress and the books I’ll be querying, including titles and some simple, non-spoiler details.
Get my collection Catalysts, my novellas Alice on the Shelf and Shadowed, and definitely order Echoes on the Pond, out now!
If you haven’t left a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or anyplace else for Echoes on the Pond, please consider doing so. This greatly helps sell copies.
And maybe call your local brick-and-mortar bookstore and demand they carry it! I’ll even sign copies! Well, if they’re local to me. That means Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and maybe some of the other New England states.
Thank you for subscribing!
