Hello, friends! I’m sitting here on Saturday night, nice and full from a delicious roast chicken dinner Pamela made. G is running around, playing her own musical à la Hamilton. We’ll probably do a family video game shortly and I’ll take a break from writing this.
I’m writing this to remind myself of the good things, because inside I’m not really feeling this positive. Things have been real tough at work. Teaching is hard anyway and right now, in this time period we find ourselves in, it’s even harder. What I’m teaching and the expectations make it even more difficult. Right now I’m in a stressful period. I’d hoped that it wouldn’t be right now, but things did not work out the way I’d hoped. Not by a longshot. So I’m stressed out.
Add to that the desire, the goal of writing and making a career out of this, and we’re even more stressed. Today (Saturday) I spent the day in a lazy mode, napping and just hanging out, reading, that kind of thing. Tomorrow (Sunday) I may do the same thing. We’ll see.
Anyway, let’s move on with the update.
Welcome to the 56th installment of Gauthic Times, the newsletter about my writing, my life, and stress.
If you like my newsletter and would you like to see more, if you’d like to help me write more, you can become a Patron on my Patreon, where I talk about things in more detail and include the names of my works-in-progress. The lowest tier for Patreon is $1. If every follower I had on social media did the $1 tier, I could pay my bills better and maybe even write more. Same if they bought copies of my books.
You can also buy me a coffee through Ko-Fi.
Echoes on the Pond is out now! Grab a copy, if you haven’t already. If you have bought it already, books make great gifts! And if you’ve read Echoes on the Pond, I’d also really love (and appreciate) it if you’d leave a nice review on Amazon or Goodreads.
You can also get my collection Catalysts or my novellas Alice on the Shelf and Shadowed.
Anyway, let’s goooooo….
***
I added about 4,000 words to Project: Amusement Park this week. The overall word count right now is almost 163,300 words, or 589 pages.
This week was tough because of the aforementioned stress. I was very tired after getting my permanent students for the year on Wednesday and had trouble writing for long most nights. Strangely, Thursday was my best night with nearly 1,000 words added.
***
I finished Don Winslow’s City in Ruins, which I got through NetGalley. A really good crime saga. In some ways, I expected more to happen but the story didn’t need it. The emotional core was full and epic. I’m so happy I got it as in advance to its April publication.
Now I’ve started Christopher Golden’s The House of Last Resort. I’m not far into it but so far it’s typical Golden goodness.

Pamela and I finished Griselda on Netflix, which was entertaining but fell short for me. I’d hoped for a little more from it and it never really materialized. It wasn’t bad, not by any means, just not as good as I’d hoped. Sofia Vergara is really good.

I think that’s all for today. I’m still pretty tired and it’s after 8 PM now (we played our family video game…I lost…again). I have a novel to write.
If you’d like to see what I could do if I wrote full-time, share this newsletter with others and consider a paid subscription.
You also tip/donate on Ko-Fi.
Of course, you could also become a Patron on my Patreon, which has a lot more information about my works-in-progress and the books I’ll be querying, including titles and some simple, non-spoiler details.
Get my collection Catalysts, my novellas Alice on the Shelf and Shadowed, and definitely order Echoes on the Pond, out now!
If you haven’t left a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or anyplace else for Echoes on the Pond, please consider doing so. This greatly helps sell copies.
And maybe call your local brick-and-mortar bookstore and demand they carry it! I’ll even sign copies! Well, if they’re local to me. That means Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and maybe some of the other New England states.
Have a great New Year and thank you for subscribing. If you choose to move to my website or my Patreon, let me know. I can always make a free tier at Patreon which could easily replace this newsletter.
